New Season
New home: The Harford Choral Society
begins its 53rd season with rehearsals on Monday, September 10, 2007 at our new venue,
St. Matthew Lutheran Church on rt. 22 in Bel Air. The Women's Ensemble (that's
any and all interested ladies) will practice at 6:00 p.m.; the Full Chorus
convenes at 7:10.
Pre-registration! In order to make
the first night of rehearsals as smooth as possible, we're asking returning members to
pre-register for chorus this year. You'll be emailed a registration form;
please fill it out and (snail-) mail it, with your dues check, to the address
on the form. You can pre-pay for music, as well. And if sending the form in advance
doesn't work for you, then please bring it-- early-- to the first practice, already
filled out and with dues attached. Let's streamline!

Summer Wrap-up
Festival: The 3rd Annual Chesapeake
Choral Festival was held from August 1st-4th, 2007 at St. John's Episcopal
Church in Havre de Grace. Former HCS director
Arlen Clarke conducted the
choral workshop, which concluded with a free concert on the Saturday afternoon. About
three dozen singers had a terrific time singing spirituals, folk songs, and sacred anthems.
Plan to join us next year!
Oh say, did you hear? On Tuesday,
July 31st, 2007, eighteen members (and/or friends) of the Harford Choral Society sang
the National Anthem before an Ironbirds Game at Ripken Stadium. The chorus
will be trying to book an earlier date next summer-- will you be there?

How Can I Help?
Members looking for ways to help the HCS thrive can assist in the following
areas:
Recruitment: Do you have friends who sing?
Encourage them to attend a rehearsal. Bonus points for tenors and basses!
Publicity: When concert fliers are
available, be sure to post them in your nearby libraries, churches, and
(where possible) shops.
Ticket Sales: Sell tickets to our concerts
to family and friends. Consider buying a few extra yourself, to give as holiday gifts
to teachers, pastors, etc.
Road Crew: Plan now to arrive early and/or to stay
a little bit late on the day of the dress rehearsal and concert (see Schedule at right)
to help set up and take down risers.
Fund Raising: We try to have one major
fund-raiser a year. Recent efforts have included Basket Bingo and Restaurant Nights,
but we're always looking for new ideas. Let us know if there's something that's worked well
for another group you've been involved with.
Donations: Can you give a little extra, or point
us to others who can? Perhaps your workplace matches charitable contributions, or
maybe you know a business owner who would buy a program ad.
